For AI assistants and the people who use them

AI Access

A person can ask their own AI assistant to find an insurance agency, ask it for a quote, or ask it for help with a policy they already have. Agencies on OfficeHubb answer through two doors that do the same thing: an MCP server for assistants that support connectors, and a plain JSON API.

  • MCP server: https://www.officehubb.net/api/mcp
  • JSON API: https://www.officehubb.net/api/ai-access/v1, described in openapi.json
  • The list of agencies: /agencies.json. Each agency's facts: /agency/<slug>/profile.json

No connector? Hand the person a link

Most people ask a free assistant with no connector. It can still help: every agency has start links that open the agency's own page with its chat already on the right questions. To help someone start a quote or a service request, send them the matching link; the office's own questions are asked there.

  • A quote: https://www.officehubb.net/agency/<slug>/start?for=quote&line=home
  • Help with a policy they already have: https://www.officehubb.net/agency/<slug>/start?for=service

The line is one of home, auto, flood, umbrella, renters, golf_cart, boat, motorcycle, life, medicare, healthcare or commercial, and a link may add zip with a 5-digit ZIP code. Nothing else: never a name, phone number, email or other personal detail. Each agency's profile lists its own start links, and the directory pages list the agencies by state and city, starting at /agencies. If you can call tools, use the MCP server below instead.

What an assistant can do

Six actions, no more. The MCP server adds one lookup, find_agency: it finds an agency by the name or town the person said, among every agency on OfficeHubb, and returns its town, phone, lines, whether it takes requests from assistants, and its start link. Medicare and health plans are left out of it.

  • find_agencies Find independent insurance agencies on OfficeHubb that take requests from AI assistants, in a US state, optionally for one line of insurance, nearest first when a ZIP or city is given. Facts only, never a recommendation.
  • get_agency_profile An agency's public facts: contact, license and how it was verified, the lines and carriers it writes, languages, office hours, whether quotes can be instant, and how soon an agent quotes when they are not.
  • check_fit Whether an agency writes a line in a state, whether a quote can be instant there (and if not, why), and the agency's own questions for that line with which ones are required. Call it before request_quote and ask the person those questions.
  • request_quote Send the person's quote request to the agency, with their answers to check_fit's questions, their consent and which assistant you are. Returns a request_id and whether quotes come instantly or an agent prepares them, with the reason and when. Only after the person agreed. Never send a Social Security, driver license, Medicare, card or bank number.
  • get_quote_status Where a request stands, by its request_id: the quotes once they exist, or when an agent will quote, and once the person picks a quote or the agent is working on it, the agent's direct contact. A quote is not coverage.
  • request_service For an existing client: send the agency a service request (ID cards, billing, a payment question, add or remove a car or driver, an address or lender change, a claim, documents). The office reaches out, usually the same business day. Only after the client agreed. Never send a Social Security, driver license, Medicare, card or bank number.

A quote request lands on the agency's board like a request from its own website, marked AI Access, with the name of the assistant that sent it. When the agency has instant quoting for that line, quotes can come back in minutes. When it does not, the answer says why with a code (no_rater, product_not_instant, missing_fields with the list, outside_hours, agent_review or existing_client) and when an agent will quote.

The honesty rules

  • A quote is not coverage. Nothing is covered until a licensed agent takes an application and the policy is bound.
  • When an agent still has to prepare the quote, the answer says so: an agent will quote within the agency's stated time. It never calls that a quote.
  • We state facts. We never recommend one agency, carrier or quote over another, and we do not answer coverage questions. A licensed agent at the agency does.
  • Medicare and health plan requests go to the agency directly, where a licensed agent gives the required disclosures first.

Consent, and what we never take

  • A quote or service request must carry the person's consent: the exact words they were shown, that they agreed, and when. check_fit gives a consent text to use. A request without a yes is refused.
  • The request must say which assistant sent it, by name and version. The agency sees it on the lead.
  • An assistant can never give consent to texts. The agency reaches the person by phone or email, and the person can opt in to texts with the agency directly.
  • We never take a Social Security number, a driver license number, a Medicare number, a card number or a bank account number. A request carrying one is refused with the field named, so the assistant can remove it and send again.
  • Requests are rate limited per caller and per assistant, and each agency has a cap per hour.

For agencies: the off switch

Requests from assistants are on by default for agencies on Solo and the Full Package. The owner or a manager can turn them off in Settings, Agency, AI Access. Off, assistants can still read the agency's public profile and are sent to its quote page. Basics does not include requests from assistants.

Connect an assistant

Claude Desktop, in two steps:

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, name it OfficeHubb and paste https://www.officehubb.net/api/mcp.
  2. In a new chat, turn the OfficeHubb connector on and ask, for example: "Find an agency in Fort Myers, Florida that writes auto insurance and get me a quote."

Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers over streamable HTTP connects the same way. Assistants that call web APIs can use the OpenAPI file instead. No sign-in is needed.

In ChatGPT and Claude the answers can show as small cards: the agencies that matched, and a confirmation once a request reaches the agency, with its request number. What is collected when a request is sent, and who receives it: Privacy for requests sent through AI assistants.
